We have created the iRozhlas mobile application, which transforms the news content of Czech Radio into digital form. We've integrated traditional text messaging with audio content on a single platform that can communicate with audiences across generations — from digital natives to traditional media consumers.

Assignment

With the increasing number of visitors to the iRozhlas website from mobile devices, it became necessary to create optimized access to content even in this environment. The key task was to attract a younger audience that traditional news formats rarely consume. The content had to be clean, without distracting elements that would distract from the essence. Information had to flow naturally, in an uncluttered structure, and be readily available on all devices — both for loyal news readers and for the multimedia-oriented digital generation.

Our solutions

We built the app on an innovative technology linking WebView and native development, enabling real-time message delivery with minimal latency. Gradually, we have implemented progressive features such as intuitive gesture control for easier consumption and storage of content, synthesized audio for text messages and a visual player with images. Sports fans will appreciate a dedicated module with clear tables of Chance League and Tipsport Extraliga, while on-the-go users will take advantage of the lock screen widget to instantly consume content without unlocking the phone.

Outturn

The iRoRadio app holds on to the top of news apps with excellent ratings on both platforms. But the most important signal of success is the ability to attract younger readers and listeners to public domain content. The app has become a modern digital receiver that carries the values of quality news reporting into a new era of media.
