iRozhlas

We created the iROZHLAS mobile app to bring Czech Radio’s news content into the digital age. It blends traditional text journalism with audio content in one platform that speaks to every generation — from digital natives to long-time media consumers.
As more and more people started visiting the iROZHLAS website from mobile devices, it was clear the mobile experience needed an upgrade. The goal? Attract younger audiences who rarely engage with classic news formats. The content had to be clean and distraction-free, flow naturally in a clear structure, and be easy to access — whether for loyal news readers or multimedia-hungry digital users.
We built the app using an innovative mix of WebView and native development — delivering real-time news with minimal lag. We gradually rolled out features like intuitive gesture controls for browsing and saving content, synthetic audio for written news, and a visual player with images. Sports fans can dive into dedicated modules with live tables from the Chance Liga and Tipsport Extraliga. And for users on the go? A lock screen widget makes it easy to catch up on news without even unlocking their phone.
The iROZHLAS app holds a top spot among Czech news apps, earning high ratings on both platforms. But the real win? It’s drawing younger users toward public service journalism. The app has become a modern digital receiver — delivering high-quality news content into the new media era.
