National Museum

National Museum in Your Pocket. This app transforms a museum visit into an interactive adventure — right among the artefacts. A digital bridge that connects historical treasures with visitors of the smartphone era.
The National Museum holds some of the most valuable historical artefacts in the country. But how do you bring them closer to a generation raised on smartphones — without alienating more traditional visitors? The curatorial challenge was clear: build a meaningful connection between history and modern technology that speaks to every age group. So, we kicked things off with in-depth research into what museum visitors really want and need.
We developed an app that acts like a digital archaeologist — revealing hidden layers of stories that exhibitions can’t fully tell. In collaboration with the studio More.is.More, we brought the museum’s iconic fin whale to life in AR — now majestically swimming above visitors’ heads. To help with navigation through the vast museum halls, we installed a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacon network to guide users precisely to featured exhibits. The app interface is designed like an intuitive exhibition catalogue that anyone can use — from kids to their grandparents, regardless of tech savviness.
The app adds value not only for visitors but for the entire institution. Museum staff gained a digital assistant that handles routine tasks, giving guides more time for personal interaction. The app’s analytics track which exhibits attract the most attention and how visitors move through the museum. This behavioural map helps curators design smarter, more engaging future exhibitions.

In advance, in the peace of home, the visitor can not only plan the route that best suits his interests and time possibilities, but also proceed at his own pace. In short, the application adapts to its needs, which is appreciated by teachers who go to the museum with students.

Thanks to the administration, the team of the National Museum can independently manage and update the content for visitors. And the great news is that the application is ready to be expanded to other buildings that fall under the National Museum, such as the Czech Museum of Music or the Náprsko Museum.
